Eve turns TEN: 04-11-21

"WELCOME, welcome, little stranger,
Fear no harm, and fear no danger;
We are glad to see you here,
For you sing "Sweet Spring is near."

Now the white snow melts away;
Now the flowers blossom gay:
Come dear bird and build your nest,

For we love our robin best. "

Eve is ten. I have tears in my eyes as I say this out loud. I am in disbelief that time can really go this fast.

Blowing Rock Park in Jupiter, Florida

This year she continues to grow into one of the most caring and sincere humans I know. Oh, how she impresses me with her self confidence. She is so sure of life and how she wants to be living it.

And living it she does! Boldly!

She chose to get baptized! 3-13-21

Between stacks of books she can be found chewing her nails absentmindedly as she is so engrossed in the characters.

With out stretched hands she pours kindness out to any and all furry friends.

Doing science with our sweet Baleigh cat.

I witness a sparkle in her eye as she is patient with younger children she includes in her play.

While amongst the swinging branches of a tree I watch confidence grow the higher she climbs.

Speaking with assuredness in her voice as she speaks to adults with respect and sense of belonging.

Living through love, of the sweetest kind, as she saddles up next to her sister to comfort, teach or just listen.

This girl has had a full year of having to exist and live in the chaos of a world she didn't used to know could be so cruel between COVID, the lessons of friendships gone awry and the death of her Grandma. Yet, the strength she possesses to start each day new, full of hope and forgiveness grows my heart.

Some observations of things she has really been enjoying:

* writing poetry

* telling jokes

* baking

* making cards

* books (still, always)

* skateboarding

* coming up with things to make to sell and or starting a business (her newest venture is a dog walking job: $1 a dog! Such a deal!)

I have always loved how our first born was born in spring. The season of birth, energy, and sweetness and when coldness and darkness are no longer center stage. This is what our spring daughter brought to us. This is what God has gifted us. And now, a decade past. Just like that. A decade of loving her and watching her continue to sprout and fight through weeds to find her sunshine.

Your place in our family nest is prominent, special and essential. Each day we walk beside you, watch you, and guide you as you bring energizing life to us. So thankful for you, my darling Eve.
